Let’s wrap up our Home exhibition with a special meet and greet featuring Jerdein Kirkland — a prolific folk artist whose love for art began at home, coloring alongside her mom. Today, she continues to use her creativity to make the world a more beautiful and inspiring place through her artwork.
About Jerdein Kirkland:
Jerdein Kirkland was born and raised on the East Side of Detroit. She was raised by her mom and grandma—two strong Black women who helped shape her into the strong Black woman she is today.
As a little girl, Jerdein loved watching her mom use her imagination as they sat at the table coloring together. Her mom would take each page to another level, bringing the images to life and creating with her soul. Now, that’s exactly what Jerdein does—she creates with her soul, using her imagination to bring her artwork to life.
In 2019, she began attending the Detroit Fine Art Breakfast Club. That’s when she discovered that she was not only an artist but also a prolific folk and fine artist, as recognized by Mr. Henry Harper, co-founder of the Detroit Fine Art Breakfast Club, in 2022.
She held her first solo exhibition in 2023 at Designer Studio 6. Jerdein was also a business owner, running a Beauty & Barber Supply and Salon for 30 years on 7 Mile and Evergreen.
Now, she’s focused on making the world a better place through her artwork.
