Curious how to begin or grow your art collection? Join us for a conversation about the various approaches to collecting, from the personal perspectives of an artist, dealer, and collector. Each of the panelists will share stories about how they acquired the works in their collection and how being surrounded with artwork impacts their lives. BasBlue Membership + Community Manager, Miah Davis will moderate the conversation to dive into best practices and tips on collecting.
ABOUT PANELISTS:
Abigail Murray (Artist, Collector)Abigail received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Inspired by the intimacy of the relationship between pots and their users, Abigail’s collection of functional ceramics are created in her Detroit studio. Her collection features work by emerging and mid-career artists. Abigail has several works currently on display at BasBlue, including the custom fireplace tiles.Barbara Kratchman (Arts Advocate, Consultant, Collector)Barbara is a former director of the Michigan Council for the Arts and founder and retired president of ArtServe Michigan. She is on the boards of Detroit Public Television, Michigan Opera Theatre and Interlochen Center for the Arts. Her collection includes work in a wide range of media from emerging to established artists.Alison Wong (Curator, Gallerist, Artist, Collector)Alison is the Director + Curator at Wasserman Projects in Detroit’s Eastern Market. She is a first-generation Chinese American artist, curator, and educator born in Illinois and based in Detroit, MI since 2004. Her collection highlights works by artists she has formed close friendships with. Alison curated the collection of artwork currently on display at BasBlue.
