DESCRIPTION:Basblue is partnering with Omniwomyn\, a network of women supporting each other in the workplace\, to host an OmniProm Dress Drive.  As non-profit organizations serving the metro-Detroit area we hope to provide area youth in need of prom dresses the opportunity to enjoy this culturally significant event in life without financial barriers. Community members are encouraged to drop off gently used or new formal dresses they are willing to donate at BasBlue from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mondays & Fridays and 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesdays\, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout March. BasBlue and Omniwomyn are seeking volunteers to sort\, label and bag dresses at BasBlue on Friday\, March 29 from 2-4pm. \nBasBlue members can bring one (1) guest. This is a child-friendly volunteer opportunity. \nNon-members\, please register here. \n  \n

SUMMARY:BasBlue Founders + Fund(Her)s Pitch Day
DESCRIPTION:Despite years of efforts to increase diversity in the venture capital (VC) industry\, a significant gender gap remains among both investment decision-makers at venture capital firms and among recipients of venture capital funding. The 30-year average of all-female founders’ share of VC funding is just 2.4% – and has dropped to as low as 1.9% in recent years.  We have significant work to do to shift this trend\, and it starts now. \nFounders + Fund(Her)s seeks to bring together early-stage (one to five years of operations) women and non-binary founders from historically underrepresented and/or under-resourced communities looking to gain exposure and raise capital\, with funders looking to advise\, support and  invest. \nDuring each Founders + Fund(Her)s session\, founders will have up to five (5) minutes to pitch their business followed by a brief Q&A with the panelists of local angel investors\, serial entrepreneurs\, and business leaders. In advance of pitching to the investor panel\, each Founder will receive a one-on-one coaching session from a start-up coach including feedback on her deck and presentation  style. \nParticipants will receive constructive feedback from the panel – crucial to any up-and-coming business – as well as introductions to relevant contacts\, and possibly even funding. \nBasBlue welcomes members to join the Founders + Fund(Her)s audience. SUMMARY:Fireside Chat with Civil Rights Leader Lynda Lowery
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Women’s History Month gather at BasBlue for a fireside chat with Lynda Blackmon Lowery. Lynda is a civil rights marcher\, activist\, speaker and author. Lynda’s involvement in civil rights began at an early age. In 1965 she was the youngest person on the frontlines of the march from Selma to Montgomery and to complete the march. This march became known as Bloody Sunday due to Linda and other marchers being beaten on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Detroit is home to many civil rights icons and the city itself played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement. Lynda will be joining us at BasBlue to share her experience in the Civil Rights Movement. Let’s honor not only a Civil Rights icon but an extraordinary woman during Women’s History Month. The program will conclude with a mixer.
