Pop Up for a Purpose with C. Love Baking Academy

Once a month, BasBlue partners with local Chefs to host Pop Up for a Purpose. The Chefs choose a charitable foundation as their "purpose" for the evening to support with a portion of the evening’s proceeds going directly towards that charity. This month, we are pleased to feature C. Love Baking Academy! All proceeds will support C. Love Baking Academy which gives immigrant women a new set of career skills while guiding them towards a newfound confidence and strength.

About C. Love Baking Academy

CLBA offers students an overview of the world of pastry and baking. We begin by learning recipe basics, scaling-out ingredients, and simpler baked goods and work our way towards more complex techniques. Throughout the learning process, students are encouraged to ask questions, interact with their baking partners and instructors, and learn to become confident chefs.

Meet Katherine Slevin

Katherine Slevin has been in the baking and pastry industry for over 17 years. She’s worked in the pastry kitchens of luxury hotels, cake shops, family-owned boulangerie-pâtisseries, Parisian pastry giant Pierre Hermé, and finally James Beard Award Winner Standard Baking Co. in Portland, Maine, before striking out on her own to start the C. Love Cookie Project and then the C. Love Baking Academy. Katherine’s lifelong commitment to pastry and serving others continues to propel her work, highlighting immigration by using the art of pastry as a connection point. She strives to empower immigrant women to join the baking community in Portland, Detroit, and beyond.
