Heal It Matters: Values, Communication and Boundaries // Dominique Walker, LPC, NCC

Values are an important component of who we are and how we make decisions in our lives. What happens when you grow or evolve? When you learn that some of those values no longer serve you? Join us in learning to reevaluate this key component of our lives and learning skills to communicate and reestablish boundaries.

The Woman
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been practicing and serving the Metro Detroit Area for the past 6 years. I received formal training and a Master's Degree of Education in Community Counseling from DePaul University in 2016. I have actively worked in human services and counseling for approximately 10 years in a variety of settings including reuniting families, strengthening familial bonds, serving as a Life Coaching for young adults 18-25 and supporting children and families with serious emotional needs. I have worked with individuals with a wide range of concerns including ADHD, stress and anxiety, depression, communication issues and strained relationships. My work in private practice focuses on helping women of color create the life they desire by building a routine for selfcare and teaching healing strategies to cope with traumatic experiences. My life experiences, empathy, wholistic perspective, and resourcefulness help shape me as an empathetic and
competent counselor.

The Work
I believe that you can create your happiness by focusing on healing yourself and creating new relationships with self and others. A major thread that is woven throughout my work and the way I connect with others is a Trauma Informed Approach which means having an understanding that it is less about "what's wrong with you" and more about "what has happened to you." Utilizing a client focused approach, we focus on acceptance and change through reflection, art, mindfulness, and other cognitive behavioral practices. My passion is to help others move closer to peace and understanding of what a happy and meaningful life looks like.
